Woodworm & Dry Rot

Woodworm & Dry Rot

There are two classic tell-tale signs of rotten woods in your building. Timber attack is predominating in damp, moist, and highly-humid spaces. If left untreated, it affects the structural integrity of the roofs, building and the entire property. In severe situations, it can lead to injuries or death.

What is dry rot?

Dry rot is a very dangerous fungus that causes extensive damage to a property. It’s causes are varied but due primarily to damp / wet conditions and poor ventilation.

What is a woodworm?

Woodworm is an infestation of the timber by wood-boring beetle. It is common in old buildings and occurs when the wood structure is weak, and the beetle turns it into food. The constant boring action gradually disintegrates the wood putting the occupants in harm’s way.

Common woodworm infestations are by the death-watch beetle, house longhorn beetle, and the furniture beetle.

How to curb woodworm?

As with every building, we carry out a thorough inspection to determine the depth of problem and devise the best solution. Sometimes the best treatment is to completely remove the rotten timber before treating the rest of the building.

Furthermore, the treatment also depends on the extent of the damage, infestation type, and the age of the building.

Wood Preservation and Biocides

For properties with less timber destruction, this is the best treatment for it. It will help preserve the wood and eliminate the insects causing the problem. Unlike other companies, we only utilize toxin-free and safe chemicals for this process.

Timber Resin Repairs

When the structural intensity of the timber is compromised timber resin repairs are the best option. In this process, the decayed ends are removed and replaced instead of changing the entire wood in a pillar. Timber resin repairs are a cost-effective but highly effective solution for dry rot and woodworm.
